In the fall of 2005, the education policy center collected and published two papers. The theme for the fall issue was addressing teacher shortages and discussing methods of increasing the pool of potential teachers through alternative certification programs. One paper discussed New Jersey’s plan to allow teachers into the classroom who have not gone through the traditional credentialing program. The second paper discussed the ever-growing and increasingly popular Teach for America program and its difficulties in providing highly qualified and prepared teachers for America’s classrooms.

In the spring of 2006, Evan Panich and the education policy center hope to increase membership and establish a weekly agenda. Additionally, the center will consider writing a piece of policy specific to education at Brown University. The center will publish three papers in the spring 2006 issue of the Brown Policy Review, all of which pertain to a common theme of marginalized groups in education. Such groups include students whose first language is not English as well as minority groups at universities.
