The Challenge: Provide greater social and economic support to grade level students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
How the proposed Challenge meets the challenge criteria:
This challenge meets the three criterias of a Roosevelt
challenge. The issue of social and economic support for children is
applicable throughout the geographic United States. In many places
throughout United States, children from disadvantaged backgrounds are
deprived of the social and economic support necessary to succeed in school
and plan a future. Although schools and the government collaborate to
create funds and certain economic support, there are many regions in the
United States where such is incapable of effectivly helping the students.
Throughout the United States, social support is limited which often serves
as the cause for problems in children's social and academic life. Not
only is this issue applicable to the geographic United States, but also
applicable on the international level. This issue is also approachable at
the local, state, and national level of government. In order to increase
the school's ability to provide greater social and economic support to
children, the government's role is crucial. The local, state and national
levels of government need to efficiently interact to set agendas. Each
level of government can affect the issue in different ways in order to
create a positive outcome. The national government is capable of creating
and funding the programs necessary while the state and local government
can accept certain guidelines and responsabilities and help enforce the
changes. This issue is approachable from a variety of academic
disciplines and specialties. With greater economic and social support
students from disadvantaged backgrounds will be able to inprove their
performance academically. The government and schools will be able to
enhance academic disciplines and opportunity for students of disadvantaged
backgrounds.
Vision or background behind the proposed Challenge:
The vision behind this challenge is that students should not be
discouraged to succeed and become a valuable member in society due to
their economic and social disabilities in which providing greater support
can make positive changes. During my years of grade level school, i was
able to recive great economic and social support that encouraged me to
overcome my obstacles. As a college student, i know the signigficance of
economic and social support and as a student of the Roosevelt institution,
this is the challenge i would like to advocate and bring about awareness
and changes that can help other students in need.
Why Roosevelt should take on this Challenge over others:
By choosing this
challenge, the Roosevelt institution will be the able to create a
progressive platform that brings greater changes for the future.
