Letter from the Western Regional Director:
Many of us joined the Roosevelt Institution because we were enticed by the prospect of working on public policy with students across the country. However, up to this point, there has been little communication between the chapters, and between chapters and the national organization. Recognizing this as a problem, the Chapter Services branch of the national organization has been given Regional Directors, whose specific mandate is to enhance the interconnectedness between individual chapters and also to make sure chapters can contribute to and are aware of what is happening at the national level.
This website will act as the digital epicenter for the Western Schools. It will provide a place for information on upcoming events, current projects, and other regional level initiatives to be shared between chapters. The website will act as a hub for regional cooperation and communication. As the Western Regional Director, I am not above any of the Chapter Heads, but instead am there to serve the chapters on the behalf of national.
Over the next couple months, I will be adding documents, newsfeeds, and resources to this website. I will be contacting the chapter heads to discuss how Chapter Services can help their individual chapters to throw bigger events, produce better policy, and expand individual fellows social networks so we can all maximize our experience with the Roosevelt Institution. I will personally be involved in promoting on campus events at Western schools, and increasing cross campus attendance at these events. Kai Stinchcombe, the national Executive Director, has recently announced that all remaining money in the Roosevelt Institution bank account is being reserved for people to travel to events at other chapters... I am to make sure this money gets into your hands.
I am very excited about making the West an interconnected network of chapters that support each other and help each other grow. With this in mind, I will need a lot of help from the senior staff at each chapter, because while I may be able to help open the channels for communication, I cannot do all the talking. I also encourage Policy Center Directors to take the initiative and contact their counterparts at other chapters. We need to stop thinking of the Roosevelt Institution as a bunch of individual units, and instead think of it as a fluid organization.
I look forward to working with you all.
Sincerely,
Amy Steinhoff
Western Regional Director
