RESOURCES FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT



Some recommended resources for community development are given below. These resources are available through Cornell University Library. Most databases are searchable using very similar search strategies. Some general hints for searching all databases are:

Hints

  • If you get too many results, add one more keyword

  • If you get too few or no results, change the keywords or remove keywords

  • Don't forget to search Thesaurus or Subject Terms of databases for more suggestions

  • If you do not get the full text link within the database, check to see if a Get it! Cornell link is available

  • Use the wildcard * at the end of words so that you do not miss out all variations of the word

    All Databases below contain wealth of resources for a wide spectrum of community development related areas ranging from transportation, housing, urban planning, landscaping and a host of other areas. Always look at the suggested subjects and add those terms to your searches.

    ACADEMIC SEARCH PREMIER

    Academic Search Premier is a multi-disciplinary database providing abstracts and full text (pdf) of articles from nearly 5000 journal titles across subject areas.

    Proquest Research Library is also an expansive multi-disciplinary database providing abstracts and full text access to articles from journals, newspapers and magazines across subject areas.

    POPLINE, the world's largest bibliographic reproductive health database. POPLINE provides citations with abstracts of the worldwide literature in the field of population, family planning, and related health issues.


    POLICY RESEARCH

    INDEX TO URBAN DOCUMENTS

    The only regularly published guide to the reports and research that are generated by local government agencies, civic organizations, academic and research organizations public libraries, and metropolitan and regional planning agencies in approximately 500 selected cities in the United States and Canada. It indexes over 2,400 documents yearly, providing a spectrum of access to local information. A yearly subscription to ICUD will include a fully searchable online index with full text documents available as PDF file.

    PAIS INTERNATIONAL

    Contains citations to public policy literature of economics, government, law, international business, political science, public administration, and other social sciences.
