The Roosevelt Institution

The purpose of the Legislative Affairs department at UC Davis is to help turn Roosevelt ideas into tangible public policy. Legislative Affairs Associates work directly with lawmakers and interest groups to promote the published work of our Roosevelt Fellows from UC Davis and around the country.
Legislative Associates go beyond the “imagination” stage of policymaking. Associates can be expected to take meetings with officials from Mrak Hall to the State Capitol building, working to get good ideas into the hands of the people that can enact them. Legislative Associates are responsible for ensuring that the right people know about ideas, as no piece of legislation can move without the support of interested all parties.
As a Legislative Associate, one can expect to:
- Learn about the legislative process by overseeing legislation from the “idea” stage to its adoption as policy.
- Work on issues that are politically and socially salient. These might include: the environment, higher education, issues concerning working families, community development, equal justice, and making democracy work.
