"Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility."

— Eleanor Roosevelt

Hyde Park 2007

Each year, the incoming leaders of Roosevelt Institution chapters gather at the FDR Estate in Hyde Park, New York with the national staff, former chapter leaders, and members of the FDR family and library community.

At this conference retreat, the students develop a common vision for how they want to lead the Roosevelt Institution in the coming year, and plan together on how to achieve this vision. They also receive the wisdom of the Roosevelt legacy -- both from the past leaders of the Roosevelt Institution and from the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute, the family, the estate, the library, and the land itself. It is one thing for a student to say himself, "I am continuing the legacy of the Roosevelts"; it is another thing to hear Roosevelt's own flesh and blood say, "We've been waiting for forty years for your generation to do this."

This year, our conference will be held August 9-12. Students will arrive the evening of Thursday the ninth, will participate in conference activities for the following two days, and will leave on Sunday the twelfth.

Below are photos from the conference.
