STANFORD, California - May 23, 2005 - Lieutenant-Colonel Joe Felter met with fellows from Roosevelt's Center on International Security at Stanford today, sharing insights on his career in the military and discussing strategic and tactical concerns of insurgency. LTC Felter discussed the need for more tactical attention and human efforts to be employed on a small scale militarily, rather than using a blanket strategy, which may prove disadvantageous depending on the situation. He also discussed the potential incentives for maintaining certain levels of insurgent uprisings in various nations. "It was refreshing to hear the opinions of someone like LTC Felter, who has seen foreign and defense policy both in action and in the classroom," said Megan Stacy, co-director of Roosevelt's Center on International Security at Stanford University. He attested to the rewarding experiences of working with small, dedicated groups of soldiers; he noted the positive impact the military can have on a community, which often goes unnoticed by the general American public."
