The Roosevelt Institution
ADVISORY: The Roosevelt Institution Holds Very Successful Energy Conference
MADISON, WI—This week, the Roosevelt Institution at Wisconsin held a conference on the future of energy policy. The organizers, who named their conference RooseveltEnergy, brought together politicians, academics, scientists, and industry professionals together with students to hold panels and workshops discussing the economic, political, and social implications of global energy policy.
The turnout at the RooseveltEnergy conference almost doubled expectations. Every panel held was filled to capacity, including one in the Wisconsin State Senate chamber itself.
The Roosevelt Institution is a non-profit, non-partisan national network of campus-based student think tanks. Its members conduct policy research on the pressing political issues facing our world, from environmental protection to equality under the law to trade and taxes. The Roosevelt Institution connects the fruits of that research to the policy process, delivering sound, progressive proposals to policymakers and advocacy groups at all levels of government as it organizes, trains, and empowers the next generation of progressive leaders.
The Roosevelt Institution chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Madison organized this high-profile energy conference in which over thirty experts from all corners of the energy industry joined together to discuss and debate the future of energy policy. The conference, which took place October 18th and 19th at the Wisconsin State Capitol building, proved to be a success. The panels held at the Capitol on the 19th demonstrated great leaps in the energy industry. Panelists, which included experts in all areas of the energy world, critiqued student policy proposals; topics included energy conservation, state energy regulation, international security issues, and environmental issues, as well as several others. Those at the conference watched the panelists discuss and debate with tremendous interest and enthusiasm: the passion and work ethic in the State Capitol that day attested to the effort and dedication of the RooseveltEnergy staff.
Using events and conferences like RooseveltEnergy, along with journals, publications, and direct interaction with legislators, the Roosevelt Institution empowers students to deliver fresh, sound policy ideas to the public discourse and other students. The success of RooseveltEnergy is an example of the power that the Roosevelt Institution, and students in general, have to pursue understanding of our world.
