Stanford - College Students Launch Student-Run Think Tank

STANFORD, California, Jan. 27 — Stanford students have launched The Roosevelt Institution, the nation's first student think tank, aimed at tapping the unused resource of students’ policy research and broadcasting it to the public.

"Smart, bold ideas are generated by students on Stanford's campus every year and end up in a professor’s filing cabinet. The Roosevelt Institution's goal is simple: take those ideas and release them into our nation's policy dialogue," says Roosevelt Institution Fellow Vincent Intersimone.

The Roosevelt Institution will hold its launch event at Stanford on February 8th, where students and faculty alike are invited to hear how the Roosevelt Institution is going to close the divide between academia and policy-making.

"We’re providing a very simple, sensible solution to a major problem," says Roosevelt Institution President Kai Stinchcombe. "By providing a little infrastructure, we can bring ideas of the next generation to the decision makers of today."

The Roosevelt Institution has already formed a network among similar groups at other schools, including Yale, Middlebury, and Columbia. Representatives from the other schools will participate in the kickoff event through a live video feed.

"This movement is not confined to one group or even one area of the country," said Jesse Wolfson, Executive Director for the Roosevelt Institution at Yale. "Students everywhere recognize the need in our society for an institution like Roosevelt."
