The Roosevelt Institution
Welcome to Middlebury's newest center, the Center on Women and Gender.

2005-2006 Mission: To increase awareness on campus and in our greater community and to produce progressive policy on issues concerning women and gender. We will be focusing on Roosevelt's national goal to work for an America that works for working families. Women still only make $.74 to the dollar and are frequently forced to choose between home and work. We strongly believe that our society needs to re-evaluate employee policy regarding women's pay, labor leave, child care, on the job training, and blind selection. The Women and Gender Center will be working with the Vermont Commission on Women, local Vermont legislatures, and Middlebury College to address the issue of working women. Lots in store! Meetings on Mondays at 8 PM in the Crest Room!

The center on Women and Gender is getting started on planning their spring symposium on issues facing women in the workforce. In an effort to address the Roosevelt challenge, help America work for working women, the center applied for and achieved a grant from the American Association of University Women to put a conference together. We will be inviting speakers, writing our own deliberative dialogue, and designing a policy workshop to address inequality in the labor market.
