"You get more joy out of the giving to others, and should put a good deal of thought into the happiness you are able to give."

Refugee Warehousing:

Their Lives Cannot Be Put On Hold Any Longer

Mission Statement:
We, at the Center for African Studies, are dedicated to enhancing the awareness and understanding of the economic, political, and social development of Africa.  Our focus for the fall semester of 2007 is refugee warehousing. Refugee warehousing is described as the practice of isolating large populations of displaced refugees in camps or segregated settlements, for periods of ten years or longer.  There are currently around 7 million people warehoused worldwide and we are committed to finding potential policies and solutions to help alleviate the forgotten crisis.

"Refugees languishing year after year in inhospitable, dangerous, desolate no-man's lands near remote and often contested borders are no one's favored assignment or story.  As a result, warehoused refugees tend to fall off the radar screen of international attention and into the Orwellian memory hole."
~Merrill Smith, "A Denial of Rights, A Waste of Humanity"
