The Roosevelt Institution at New York University

The Roosevelt Institution at NYU, drawing from the resources of its eight undergraduate and eleven graduate colleges, is in a unique position to emerge as a leader within the academic community as well as within the city at large. Roosevelt builds upon the University's great tradition of perseverance and excellence to act as the vehicle through which to guide ideas, borne of the best academic tools, into the public discourse. In the words of NYU President John Sexton, our ability to overcome the traditional divides between disciplines, our location at the nexus of ideas and action, and our philosophy of affirmative dissatisfaction is what makes NYU such an exceptional institution.

Colleges are already essentially think tanks, and students at NYU have abundant resources at their disposal, from research tools and technology to an esteemed faculty offering guidance. The Roosevelt Institution at NYU mobilizes the student body, connecting the university with the political process to affect public policy agendas. Roosevelt creates an infrastructure of student leadership, giving students experience in the political sphere, providing them with networking opportunities, and uniting future leaders as they produce policy for the progressive movement.

The Roosevelt Institution at NYU writes policy through our policy centers, the topics of which are determined by students' interests from year to year. Our relationships with think tanks, community leaders, elected officials and political and non-profit organizations in the city are vital to our efforts. Through our policy and our relations with the New York political community, we work to bridge the gap between the University and the surrounding community and to unify the progressive movement in New York.
