The Progressive Policy Institute (PPI) is a research and education institute. It is--along with the Democratic Leadership Counci--a part of the Third Way Foundation, an organization which advocates for a political philosophy of the "third way" which was followed and popularized by President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister Tony Blair. PPI's mission is to define and promote a new progressive politics for America in the 21st century. Through its research, policies, and perspectives, the Institute is fashioning a new governing philosophy and an agenda for public innovation geared to the Information Age. For more information on PPI, check out its website.

Positions Available for
Roosevelt Policy Academy Fellows:

Research assistant: Chinese and Japanese Trade Policy
Economic issues such as free trade and the tremendous impact of China and Japan on the global economy have been much discussed recently, especially by the 2008 presidential campaigns. Given the importance of the topic and its currency, PPI is undertaking research on Chinese and Japanese trade policy. The research will focus on China's free trade agreements and the power this gives China to formulate a global economic strategy.
PPI is looking for a Roosevelt Policy Academy fellow to assist with the research for this project. It is strongly preferred that applicants have Chinese language skills.

Research assistant: Counterfeiting Native American art and intellectual property
In today’s global economy, defending intellectual property rights is complex and often controversial—as the debate over DVD piracy in China has shown. PPI is studying the issue of defending intellectual property rights, and looking at ways of “democratizing” those rights. In this effort, PPI is researching the case of Native Americans, whose art and intellectual property is pirated on a massive scale. While many Native Americans live in poverty, outside enterprises have created a large business of selling counterfeit Native American crafts.
PPI is looking for a Roosevelt Policy Academy fellow to assist with the research for this project.
