About the Young Elected Officials Network

The Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network is a project of People for the American Way that unites and supports progressive elected leaders under the age of 35.  The YEO Network enables these officials to exchange ideas, develop leadership skills, and connect with policy development organizations.  The YEO Network allows cooperation at community levels across the country, ultimately producing an enduring pipeline of well-prepared national and world class leaders.  To visit the YEO Network website, click here.

The Roosevelt-YEO Partnership

Because the YEO Network and the Roosevelt Institution have a similar progressive vision and decentralized structure, the two organizations are well-suited for a partnership.  Through the Roosevelt Policy Academy, qualified Roosevelt fellows will be placed at internship positions at the offices of young elected officials.  Although the nature of the work will depend on the official’s needs, students will be given substantive, policy-related work, usually involving research.  If possible, Roosevelt fellows will be placed at an official working close to their school, although such a pairing is not guaranteed.
In addition to setting up long-term pairings between students and elected officials (which may, as noted above, be either remote or on-site), Roosevelt also helps YEO Network members with one-time research requests.
