"You get more joy out of the giving to others, and should put a good deal of thought into the happiness you are able to give."

— Eleanor Roosevelt

Stanford University

The Roosevelt Institution at Stanford is changing.  First developed following the 2004 presidential election, we are still a young organization, and we are continuing to try to find the best way to accomplish our mission: to effect change through students’ progressive policy ideas.

To accomplish this goal, we are shifting to a “Research Fellow” model this year. The role of a Research Fellow is to focus on a specific area of policy.  Within that area they will produce a number of policy pieces over the year including, but not limited to, a well researched piece for submission to The Roosevelt Review, op-eds and other small idea-based pieces.  Research Fellows, in addition to doing their own research, act as a resource and contact for other students working on policy in their field.  These students can submit their ideas for possible publication and/or participation in policy-based events. For policy related questions, please email Shivan Sarin: ssarin@stanford.edu.

In addition to our fellow based policy production, Roosevelt at Stanford will be leading classes during Stanford’s winter and spring quarter focusing on policy writing. Based on the three policy challenges: making democracy work, equal justice, and community development, the class aims to teach the techniques of writing effective policy. For questions, please email Eva Jellison: egj14@stanford.edu.

Finally, to spread our policy, Roosevelt at Stanford works closely with media, student groups and legislators at every level. Check back on this website and look out for Roosevelt events to stay updated on our activities. If you wish to get to work with Roosevelt at Stanford, have any other questions or comments, please email Arthur Kaneko: akaneko@stanford.edu.
