Healthcare in United States presents a most bewildering paradox: our nation spends more on health-related services than any other country in the world and yet still fails to provide the most basic medical necessities to many of its citizens. Some 44.6 million people go without any form of health insurance. Disparities in access, quality, and infrastructure still plague the nation's healthcare system, producing at great cost results that only begin to approach the health outcomes secured by other industrialized nations. We at the Committee for Health and Human Services believe we can do better. We must do better. For what use is the distinction of America as a "superpower" if we cannot even safeguard within our own borders the fundamental human right to adequate health and wellbeing?
Mission:
With that imperative, we challenge both the validity of status quo conditions and, more importantly, the policies that propagate those conditions. The Center for Health and Human Services is dedicated to the elevation of innovative ideas in all areas concerning human welfare. To that end, our fellows foster research and analysis in four general, overlapping spheres:
(1) Access -- Analyzing the complex relationships and disparities that prevent individuals, groups, or classes from receiving adequate care at any point in time.
(2) Systems and Infrastructure -- Treating the critical issues of modern health care delivery and provision, with a particular focus on education, capacity-building, and financing.
(3) Quality and Ethics of Medical Practice -- Weighing the ethics and implications of modern science and traditional medicine
(4) Policy -- Developing practicable solutions that bridge gaps in access, quality, and infrastructure with direct consideration to other pertinent fields such as economics, philosophy, and political feasibility.
