The battle for the individual rights of women is one of long standing and none of us should countenance anything which undermines it.
- Eleanor Roosevelt
Recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.
- Eleanor Roosevelt
The Roosevelt Center on Women and Gender exists primarily to provide solid research and policy proposals regarding issues of women and, more broadly, gender.
Our center recently published an Op-Ed (in conjunction with the Op-Ed project for the Special Election) on the reasons why Proposition 73 on parental notification for abortion was bad policy (and are very pleased that Prop 73 did end up failing).
Currently, we are drafting a proposal for a policy regarding how the newly developed HPV vaccine, the leading cause of cervical cancer, should be implimented. In the future, we plan to work for actualization of US funding of the United Nations Population Fund.
There are many issues that need to be addressed through policy regarding issues of women and gender. We firmly believe that positive change towards the advancement of gender equality is not only possible, it is essential.
