The Collaborative Conference on Community Development

November 30 and December 1, 2007

Tulane University

The Collaborative Conference on Community Development is a daylong conference presented to provide participants the opportunity to enhance their understanding of community development -- specifically in the areas of education, affordable housing, and sustainable development. Information covered will pertain specifically to New Orleans but is structured in such a way as to be applicable in any community. Participants will meet and receive firsthand accounts from local community leaders, visit sites currently part of community development projects, and receive from legislators insight into the legal problems encountered when crafting community development policy and suggestions on what  kinds of improvements we can make. After these events, participants will form discussion groups with local community leaders to discuss what everyone has seen and heard. The ultimate goals of the Collaborative Conference on Community Development are to offer a glimpse into development efforts in a city where community development is an actively-discussed subject and to promote and motivate idea-sharing and collaboration among participating chapters. To our local community leader guests, this conference will serve as an opportunity to interact with students interested in community development policy and to receive input from a younger public.
