Apply to the Roosevelt Institution policy symposium on emergency preparedness and relief—you’ll work with experts in the field and students across the country to put forward substantive ideas for improving the nation’s capacity for protecting and preparing in emergency situations. Symposium will be held March 3-5 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Scholarships available. SCEPR Symposium Mission | The horror that was Hurricane Katrina exposed devastating gaps in U.S. disaster relief policy. In response, the Roosevelt Institution’s Special Center for Emergency Preparedness and Relief (SCEPR), headquartered at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is soliciting and guiding projects undertaken by students in a variety of disciplines at Roosevelt Institution chapters across the country. UNC-CH has drawn together a team of experts and editors to evaluate and workshop the policy projects; outstanding policy projects will be selected for publication in a special Roosevelt report. DETAILS | How to Apply: Project proposals and applications for attendance at the March symposium should be received by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2005. Proposals should include the area of research, the title of the paper, a 1-2 page outline including the main ideas presented and policy discussed, names of any faculty advisors, and an expected date of completion. Be sure to include the name, email, and telephone number of a primary contact, the name of his or her college or university, as well as the names of other fellows associated with the paper who wish to apply to attend the symposium. No more than five fellows will be invited to attend per policy paper.
