This responsibilty is especially poignant in the aftermath of the lack of preparation for and continued rebuilding from the ravages of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the Gulf Coast.  Students from around the country presented their research and ideas on disaster policy at Tulane University's First Annual Disaster Studies Symposium on April 21, 2007.  Our presenters included:  Laura Olsen-George Washington University Matt Carney-Tulane Stephanie Somerman and Hilary Doe-Michigan State University Jim Conningsby-Tulane Jeffrey Czajkowski-Florida International University in Miami Christopher Hare-Tulane Kristen Ardani-Tulane Michelle Tarfur-University of Hartford Kadhiresan Murugappan-Tulane Ryanne Clarke-Tulane Lisa Frankel-Tulane -Vermont Law School Much thanks to everyone who helped make this such a sucessful symposium, to City Council President, Oliver Thomas, for extending so much support to our chapter, to Mark Newburg, and to all Tulane's Roosevelt Members who worked so hard!     The Roosevelt Institution is a nonpartisan, nonprofit national think tank devoted to bringing students' policy ideas to the policy process.
