The First Annual Symposium on Disaster Studies
Hosted By
The Roosevelt Institution at Tulane University
April 20-22, 2007

Preparing and recovering from disasters presents a challenge to communities everywhere.  As our population increases along with the risk of disasters, it will be the duty of our generation to ensure our own safety. This responsibilty is especially poignant in the aftermath of the lack of preparation for and continued rebuilding from the ravages of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the Gulf Coast.  Students from around the country presented their research and ideas on disaster policy at Tulane University's First Annual Disaster Studies Symposium on April 21, 2007.

Our presenters included:

Laura Olsen-George Washington University

Matt Carney-Tulane

Stephanie Somerman and Hilary Doe-Michigan State University

Jim Conningsby-Tulane

Jeffrey Czajkowski-Florida International University in Miami

Christopher Hare-Tulane
