I'm from the Chicago suburbs and I drink soda, not pop. If you drink pop, you're making people laugh at the midwest. Stop drinking pop.
My interest in education policy was sparked by a leadership turnover in my high school that really turned the school around. I'm still close with my old principal and a few department chairs and they advise me on education issues and keep me grounded when I think I'm too much of a bigshot, which is more often than is probably healthy.
I worked last summer with Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now (ConnCAN) in New Haven on some policy research on charter schools and a project on the state-level implementation of No Child Left Behind. Some of this research transferred over to the Center on Education Policy and got really really good because of the great people that contributed to it.
This summer I'm hanging out in New Haven again, this time working as development director for a local non-profit (check out www.infonewhaven.com). For 5 weeks somewhere in there I'll be in Costa Rica taking Spanish, hanging out on the beach, and drinking mojitos til sunrise. In the meantime I'm helping to plan A Seat at the Table: Socioeconomic Diversity and Access to Selective Colleges and Universities. Check it out!
