Laurie Anne Hughes (2002) has moved back to the Fort Worth,Texas area and is planning on attending grad school at Southern Methodist University. Recently Miss Hughes was honored by the Democratic National Committee as a Young Women of Political Leadership at the 12th annual Women's Leadership Forum in Washington D.C. and also by EMILY's List as a Rising Star in politics today. Miss Hughes also was invited to join the nation's first student think tank,The Roosevelt Institution. She is also working on her first book on Democratic Politics and The United Methodist Social Principles. While at American University (2004) Miss Hughes founded the Democratic Women of American University and was active in College Democrats of America and The United Methodist Church.
While at Weatherford College Miss Hughes was President of the WC Historical Society, an active member of the Wesley Foundation and Campus Life Editor of the Oak Leaf Yearbook.She was also the first winner of the Jim Wright Scholarship for political science . She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and was a Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and on the National Dean's List.
