Nell Selander, born and raised in San Francisco, is a sophomore planning to major in American Studies, and totally over-committing herself in the process. While attempting to perform stunningly in her academic studies, she is working for East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring as a tutor coordinator, interning at First Step for Families (a family homeless shelter in San Mateo County) and acting as Vice President of the Stanford Democrats. In her ever-diminishing free time, Nell enjoys indulging in not-so-progressive activities, such as: watching television, reading trashy magazines, and eating processed foods. As a Democrat, these activities may seem counter-intuitive, but her life was reaffirmed one afternoon while listening to National Public Radio. That afternoon on NPR, a quasi-liberal analyst explained that the American public will always go for the lowest prices, it is not their fault that they find these prices at WalMart. It is up to WalMart to raise the price threshold and perhaps our government could help it in doing so, by providing incentives and the like. So, while Nell enjoys her over-indulgent lifestyle, she may rest peacefully, knowing that she will one day influence the way government interacts in our daily lives, ultimately, though, to ensure that progressive-minded individuals like herself do not feel guilty while laying on the couch, eating chips, and watching The OC.
