Benny Padilla is a senior planning to major in International Relations (with a focus on Latin American development and political economies) and minor in Spanish language. He grew up in Perris, CA, a small semi-rural valley community that is trying to deal with the copious amounts of air pollution it receives from the Los Angeles area. While in high school, he also received the Rotary International Scholarship (Perris Chapter) for his commitment to the community and became a Gates Millennium Scholar due to his academic excellence and leadership skills.

He is currently involved in several community service projects (in the capacity of a Rotaract Community Service Chair, an ESL tutor, and a Sponsorship Committee member for Relay for Life), a social entrepreneurial project through BASES (one of the largest student entrepreneurial organizations in the United States), the Catholic Community, and the Stanford Intramurals Department (as the Director). Furthermore, he is deeply interested in alternative energy policies and in environmental justice. He is also interested in security studies as is evidenced by his research this past September. Benny studied and conducted independent research in Singapore regarding the connection between national identity and security policies within Southeast Asia. In his spare time he enjoys playing a competitive game of basketball (or anything really), watching political thrillers and comedies, helping people smile, and spending time with family and friends.
