Center on International Development

An International Relations major at Stanford University, Cammie Lee is looking forward to pursuing a policy-making career in the field of international development. Her work at the US Embassy in Singapore, where she grew up, sparked Cammie’s interest in international diplomacy. Her passion in this area continues at Stanford with a focus on social justice issues. As Co-Founder and Director of Stanford Beyond Bars, Cammie leads Stanford's first organization to address legal justice issues. MTV and Youth Venture recognized this innovative volunteer group with a public service grant. Tutoring in jails has opened her eyes to the powerful effects of education, and Cammie has grafted this interest onto her independent research project. A recipient of a Chappell-Lougee grant from Stanford, Cammie will travel to Germany this summer and conduct field research on the contextualization of children's Holocaust literature in German schools. Cammie also pursues her commitment to the promotion of children’s health actively. As part of the American Red Cross and Student Campaign for Child Survival, she has helped raise money to vaccinate 2,000 children in Sub-Saharan Africa against measles and has lobbied Congress for more funding towards child survival initiatives. These experiences, combined with her role as a counselor for highly-motivated, underprivileged youths last summer, led to her election as a Service Outreach Coordinator and a Stanford Leader in Public Service. This year, Cammie was selected as a Sophomore Fellow to teach a self-designed class on "The Art of Negotiation." In her free time, Cammie loves taking photographs.
