Sam is an undergraduate in the Earth Systems program at Stanford University. Her interest is in environmental economics, environmental education, and in applications of GIS, specifically in community-based mapping projects for conservation and land-use decisions.

She has done previous field work with the Environmental Science Education and Research Foundation of Idaho to examine the effects of wildfire and grazing on the Snake River Plain. She has also worked for the Center for Ecotourism and Sustainable Development and US AID to examine the impacts of the cruise industry in the Caribbean and support sustainable reinvestment efforts after Hurricane Ivan in Grenada.

Her passion for environmental issues stems from her childhood in the Idaho outdoors, and she has since been lucky enough to spend several months living, backpacking, and mountaineering in the wilderness of Patagonia.
