I am currently a Senior in the Human Biology program with an A/C in "Access to Quality Health Care Through Policy" and am a coterm in Sociology with an A/C in Social Stratification and Inequality. As for my past experience with health care issues, I participated in HB-REX research last summer with Donald Barr working on the occupational health of migrant farmworkers in Califonia. Also, I spent the Winter of 2005 in Washington, D.C. studying health care policy and policymaking through Stanford in Washington and interning at the office of my congresswoman, Hilda Solis of the 32nd District of California helping with her environmental and health issues legislative assistants. I will be back in Washington, D.C. the summer of 2005 working at the Partnership For Public Service working on PSS' new Call to Serve program whose goal is to get more college students interested in public service. Also, I am a peer counselor at the Bridge Peer Counseling Center at Stanford and mental health is one of the areas of health policy that I am particularly interested in along with minority health and health care as a civil right. I am a Paul Wellstone progressive who believes that access to quality health care is a right, not a market good.
