Policy interests: Nonprofits and philanthropy, Religion

Hello,
My name is Erika Gonzalez and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Michigan.
I have many academic interests, and have only recently declared History as my major, with a minor in International Studies. I think after much deliberation this combination is the best fit for my interests. Although I am taking Latin as my language requirement, I am planning to enroll in Spanish as well in order to strive for fluency by my graduation. This will correlate with my focus on Europe as a part of my international studies minor. I am also very interested in religion, and have made this the thematic focus of my international studies minor.
I am extremely interested in becoming more involved with policy issues regarding international relations; I have no previous experience with this and I feel that the group will prove very valuable to the advancement of my knowledge.
I am currently involved in volunteer programs such as Time for Tots and K-grams. I am also participating in GIEU (Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates Program) which will allow me to travel to Costa Rica with other University of Michigan students and staff to work with Non-Governmental Organizations and public policy.
I would love to become active in the Roosevelt Institution. I hope to expand my knowledge of international relations while gaining invaluable experience, hopefully to help me in choosing a future career. I love to volunteer and I will be willing to become involved in as many projects as I have time to commit to.

Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon,
Erika
