Oliver is a senior at Bard College majoring in Classical Studies; his thesis will be on the constitutive relationship between the state and the subject in Athens as exemplified through ideas of the city's "fall" in Herodotus, Euripides, and Plato. He enjoys music, languages, chess, foursquare, electoral politics, international relations, and any sort of theory. He thinks energy, Iraq, and Darfur are probably the most important issues of the current electoral cycle, and that if any issue is chronically underlooked, it is sexual violence.

This fall Oliver hopes to help found a Roosevelt chapter at Bard. He has been the organizational outreach and new media coordinator at the Institution's national office since June.

Oliver grew up in Easton, Pennsylvania. His parents are teachers (at college and nursery school); his brothers Arthur and Matthew are working in Bosnia and DC respectively and his sister Rebecca is starting college in Los Angeles.
