Whitney R Henderson


School: Providence College

Policy interests: Human rights, Immigration, Poverty and social justice, Social policy, Women, gender, and feminism

Originally from Memphis, TN, Whitney is a junior at Providence College, Rhode Island, with a double major in French and Social Work. Activities at college include: Amnesty International, Vagina Monologues, Habitat for Humanity, and Women Will.

Currently studying abroad in Paris, France for the Spring 2008 semester, she has an internship is with La Ligue de  Droits de l'Homme (Human Rights League), which focuses on immigration  rights and laws. Her thesis with this group will focus on the French nationality laws of 1993 and 1998, the politics leading up to them, and the effects of said laws.
 
For the 2008-2009 academic year,  she will be interning with National Association of Social Workers, Rhode Island chapter.

Current projects: researching French immigration laws (1993 & 1998), French politics, writing comparative Franco-American opinion pieces.

Projects for next year at Providence College: (hopefully) starting a women's center/peer-to-peer advocacy group; starting a chapter of the Roosevelt Institute; organizing the Vagina Monologues.
