Be the change you want to see in this world -- Mahatma Gandhi
The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today -- Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world. - Nelson Mandela
Never has analyzing and evaluating US foreign policy been as critical and crucial as it is today.
The events of September 11th illustrated the direct role of foreign relations in shaping national security and our daily lives. As the world's superpower in a new security environment, leading an increasingly globalized world, the United States must move away from partisan politics and strive toward beneficial academic debate and inquiry. World issues like international terrorism, energy security, use and reform of international institutions, and US attitudes toward certain regions of the world like Latin America and Southeast Asia, demand our urgent attention.
The Roosevelt Institution's Center for Foreign Policy embodies the critical goal of progressive academic criticism and scholarship. It turns away from the destructive politicized debates that have blurred the line between fact and fantasy, and have had a negative impact on policy formulation and perceptions of America at home and abroad. In doing so, we hope to facilitate informed, progressive debate and have a positive impact on policy implementation.
